Nicklas Lidstrom, one of the best defencemen to ever head-man the puck, is set to announce his retirement after 20 NHL seasons, all for the Detroit Red Wings. In honour of the seven-time Norris Trophy winner’s achievement, we take a look back at what the league looked like in 1991, when Lidstrom played his very first NHL game.
