No supplementary discipline for Phaneuf after Reinhart hit

Watch as Dion Phaneuf gets taken down by Bogosian after missing a high open-ice hit on Reinhart.

Dion Phaneuf will not be receiving any further discipline from the league for his hit on Sam Reinhart Friday night, according to Sportsnet’s John Shannon.

Phaneuf came close to shaking up Reinhart with an open-ice hit in the third period of the eventual Buffalo Sabres victory. The Ottawa Senators defenceman lined him up, but just barely missed and instead appeared to merely graze Reinhart. Phaneuf received a two-minute penalty for the play for an illegal check to the head, plus an additional two minutes for roughing after an altercation with Sabres’ defenceman Zach Bogosian right after. Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma was unhappy with the minor penalty that was assessed, and told reporters as much following the game.

“I haven’t seen [the replay] but he got him in the head,” Bylsma said. “I’m only disappointed they called a two-minute, not more.”
