Oilers activate Kris Russell from IR, send Ethan Bear to AHL

Ryan Strome scored the winning goal in overtime as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Cologne Sharks in NHL exhibition play.

The Edmonton Oilers have activated defenceman Kris Russell from injured reserve and have assigned defenceman Ethan Bear to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

Russell had four goals and 21 points in 78 games last season, leading the league with 223 blocked shots.

Bear, a fifth-round pick from 2015, had six goals and 18 points in 37 games with the Condors.

The Oilers open their season against the New Jersey Devils in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Saturday.
