Oilers not planning on re-signing Comrie

Mike Comrie has a new wife. If he wants to continue his NHL career, he’ll need to find a new team.

Comrie, 29, recently married actress-pop singer Hilary Duff. The veteran centre played 43 games for Edmonton last season scoring 13 goals and 21 points, but the Oilers are not planning to bring him back.

"We want to give our skill positions to our younger players," Oilers GM Steve Tambellini told Sportsnet.ca.

In nine NHL seasons playing with Edmonton, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Ottawa and the New York Islanders, Comrie has 167 goals and 359 points in 568 games. The Oilers have a wealth of young players who will be vying for jobs this season including the No. 1 overall pick in last June’s entry draft, Tayor Hall. Also bidding for work will be Jordan Eberle, the 22nd pick in the 2008 draft, and Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, the 10th pick in 2009.
