Spooner has appeared in 40 games this season, split between the New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers. The 26-year-old has just three goals and two assists in those 40 games. Spooner has two years left on an $8-million deal he signed prior to the start of the season. He was acquired from the Rangers in exchange for centre Ryan Strome on Nov. 16.
Rattie has eight points in 29 contests this season for the Oilers. The 25-year-old carries a cap hit of $800,000 and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
Now that both players have cleared waivers, Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock did not rule out the possibility of either returning.
"Both guys are on competitive notice. If we see the things we want to see, they get to play. I don't care who it is as long as he helps us win." Hitchcock on the #Oilers deployment of Spooner & Rattie

Falk signed a one-year, $650,000-deal on Nov. 30, but has appeared in just 10 games for the Senators, going pointless with a minus-4 rating.
