Oilers rookie Hall will wear No. 4 jersey

First overall pick Taylor Hall will wear the No. 4 jersey in his rookie season with the Edmonton Oilers with an official announcement expected on Wednesday.

Hall will be the first Oilers player to wear the jersey number since former defenceman Kevin Lowe. Currently the president of hockey operations for the Oilers, Lowe is the only other player to wear the No. 4 in franchise history.

Hall wore the jersey number throughout his junior career with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL and as a member of Canada’s silver-medal winning team at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships.

The Oilers selected Hall with the No. 1 pick at June’s NHL Entry Draft. Had Edmonton opted to select Tyler Seguin instead, Hall would’ve slipped to the No. 2 pick which belonged to the Boston Bruins. The No. 4 jersey is retired in Boston in honour of Hall of Fame defenceman Bobby Orr.
