The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to open their season with three straight wins for the first time since 2008 when they visit the New York Islanders on Tuesday as +110 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Edmonton overcame a third-period deficit for the second time in as many outings in the team’s last contest, a 6-5 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Kings as -150 home chalk, and will be aiming to extend that success on the road in Tuesday’s matchup at Barclays Center.

The Oilers still face the challenge of overcoming their struggles on the road late in the schedule last season. Edmonton fell to defeat in four of their final five road dates last season, while getting outscored by a wide 23-11 margin. And while the Oilers have posted wins in five of their last seven meetings with the Islanders, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, they have earned just two victories in 12 meetings with New York since December 2001.

The Islanders close out a three-game season-opening homestand as -135 favourites on Tuesday night. The club rebounded from a 2-1 loss to Washington last Thursday by recording a decisive 4-1 win over Winnipeg on Sunday, and have now surrendered just 19 total goals over 12 home dates since early March, fueling a 10-2 run for the UNDER in totals betting over that stretch.

Elsewhere on the Tuesday NHL odds at betting sites, the Winnipeg Jets look to take advantage of the hobbled Pittsburgh Penguins as they visit Pittsburgh as +130 underdogs, while later in the evening the Calgary Flames play host to the Kings as -200 betting favourites.

The Jets have struggled defensively during their season-opening four-game road trip, surrendering 14 total goals while falling to defeat in two of their first three outings. However, the Jets have also averaged 37.7 shots on goal during that stretch, and hope to take advantage of a Penguins squad that will be without both Evgeni Malkin and Nick Bjugstad, who are both sidelined indefinitely.

The Flames will be trying to build on their first win of the season, a 3-0 blanking of the Vancouver Canucks as -200 home chalk on Saturday night. Calgary posted wins in two of four meetings with the Kings last season, with the two teams combining to score just 12 total goals in those contests.

The Kings carried over their road woes from last season with Saturday’s loss in Edmonton as +130 underdogs, and have now lost 12 of their past 15 contests away from Staples Center since early February.
