Oilers’ Khaira sticks up for Pakarinen, pummels Clutterbuck

New York Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck cross-checks Iiro Pakarinen behind the play, and Edmonton Oilers' Jujhar Khaira forces him to answer the bell, with a good old fashioned hockey fight.

New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck got his comeuppance against the Edmonton Oilers Thursday night.

Clutterbuck broke his stick over Iiro Pakarinen’s body after delivering a high, cheap cross-check with about 6:35 remaining in the opening period. Pakarinen was seen hunched over in pain on the bench before being taken to the locker room and Clutterbuck was handed a two-minute penalty… but that wasn’t the only punishment the Isles grinder would receive.

Less than five minutes after Clutterbuck’s cross-check, Oilers youngster Jujhar Khaira issued a challenge as retribution. As you can see in the video at the top of the page, Clutterbuck accepted and the two duked it out with Khaira filling the veteran in with rangy right hands.

Clutterbuck has made several headlines in the past month when facing Canadian teams. He was involved in the play that led to Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews’ shoulder in late February. He was also the player that collided with Brock Boeser earlier this week that left the Vancouver Canucks standout rookie with an injured back.
