Oilers likely to trade Jeff Petry by deadline

Damien Cox and Elliotte Friedman discuss all the news around the NHL including possible changes coming to Boston and give us an update on the Mike Babcock situation.

Don’t expect Jeff Petry to be a member of the Edmonton Oilers beyond March 2.

There is no expectation that Petry and the Oilers will come to terms on a contract extension and other teams would be shocked if Petry isn’t moved before the 2015 NHL Trade Deadline, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The 27-year-old, who has a $3.075-million cap hit and becomes a UFA in the summer, is a quality puck-moving defenceman who can jump into the rush and log 20-plus minutes a game.

Petry is currently dealing with a rib injury, but that isn’t expected to impact his trade value.
