After losing Game 1 of their qualifying round series against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Edmonton Oilers are looking to goaltender Mikko Koskinen to help them rebound in Game 2 Monday night.
Head coach Dave Tippett named Mike Smith as his starter for the opening matchup of the series on Saturday, but the veteran struggled out of the gates. Smith allowed five goals on 23 shots through the first half of the game and was pulled at the 26:32 mark of the eventual 6-4 loss.
Koskinen stepped in in relief, facing 19 shots and allowing one goal through 30:46. Monday night’s matchup will be the 32-year-old’s first time starting a playoff game.
