The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Joakim Nygard and defenceman Kris Russell on injured reserve. Additionally, the club has recalled forward Tyler Benson and defenceman William Lagesson from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
Russell, 32, is in concussion protocol. It’s unclear when his injury occurred, but he had one assist in 11:36 of ice time in Wednesday’s shootout loss to the Calgary Flames.
Nygard, 27, injured his hand in the first period of the Flames game. He has six points in 33 games this season, his first in the NHL.
Benson, 21, is in his third AHL season but has never played in the NHL. He has 35 points in 42 games this season.
Lagesson, 23, has skated in two games with the Oilers this season and an additional 25 in the AHL.
