It appears Andrej Sekera could be one step closer to making his debut this season.
The Edmonton Oilers announced they have assigned the defenceman to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors for a conditioning assignment.
The 32-year-old tore his Achilles tendon in an off-season training session and was deemed out indefinitely.
Sekera’s return would be a welcome addition to an Oilers’ defensive core that has contributed to the team allowing 171 goals this season, the fourth-highest total league-wide.
In four seasons since joining Edmonton, Sekera has appeared in 197 games, accumulating 73 points with the club.
