The Ottawa Senators selected centre Shane Bowers with the No. 28 pick Friday at the NHL Draft.
Bowers, 17, is a native of Halifax yet chose to play in the USHL for the Waterloo Blackhawks instead of lacing up his skates with a Canadian Hockey League team.
“A good, two-way player who doesn’t wow you with any one skill, but finds good position at both ends of the ice,” says Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek.
Bowers scored 22 goals and added 29 assists in 60 games with Waterloo this past season.
