Ovechkin’s kid snowjob hot topic among fans

Was he being playful, or just mean?

That’s what fans in Montreal are asking after Alex Ovechkin’s pregame performance Wednesday night at the Bell Centre.

As the Washington captain and his Capitals teammates did their warmup lap just prior to the game’s puck drop, two kids dressed in Montreal uniforms stood by the Canadiens entrance waving flags, helping to usher the team on the ice as the home crowd roared.

As one of the youngsters performed his flag-waving duty, Ovechkin skated toward the Capitals bench at full speed and stopped abruptly in front of the kid, spraying him with ice. Ovechkin then promptly took his seat on the Capitals bench.

According to Montreal Gazette hockey writer Dave Stubbs, Ovechkin did the same kind of thing prior to Monday’s Game 3, nearly slicing a camera cable. Stubbs suggested Ovechkin’s antics are no big deal, but the Globe and Mail’s Sean Gordon called him “bush league.”
