Montreal’s P.K. Subban suffers non-serious neck injury

An unnatural and worried silence fell on the Bell Centre late in Thursday game as an unfortunate fall put P.K. Subban's head in the path of a teammate. Subban would need to be stretchered off the ice.

After comprehensive testing, Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban was released from the Montreal General Hospital late Thursday night, the club announced.

He suffered a non-serious neck injury.

Subban was stretchered off the ice after appearing to injure his neck in an awkward collision with teammate Alexei Emelin in the third period of Thursday’s game with the Buffalo Sabres.

Subban was down on the ice for several minutes but was able to move his arms and legs.

The Canadiens confirmed after the game that Subban suffered a neck injury and the defenceman was sent to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

After the game, Max Pacioretty said Subban’s situation reminded him of his own scary incident in 2011, when Zdeno Chara hit him by the benches and Pacioretty’s head hit the stanchion.
