The Florida Panthers recalled goaltender Sam Brittain on Monday, according to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston.

The news comes a day after the Panthers’ starting goaltender, Roberto Luongo, was barreled over by Alex Ovechkin during the Panthers-Capitals game. Luongo was slow to get up following the hit, but remained in the game until the third period, when he was replaced by backup Al Montoya.

Following the game, Luongo told The Associated Press that, “It was a mutual decision to keep me out for precautionary reasons, so nothing more than that.”

Britain, 22, was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Draft and is currently playing for the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones, following four years of playing at the University of Denver.

In twelve starts for the Cyclones, Brittain has a record of 6-5-1 with a GAA of 2.79 and a save percentage of .900.

The Panthers have a few days off before they take on the Canucks in Vancouver on Thursday.
