Panthers’ Luongo leaves game vs. Lightning with apparent leg injury

Roberto Luongo had to be helped off the ice after Frank Vatrano fell on top of him in the crease during play.

Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo left Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning with an apparent leg injury.

The team announced that he would not be returning due to a lower-body injury.

Midway through the second period, after making a save, Luongo had a lot of heavy traffic in his crease leading to Florida forward Frank Vatrano falling down on to his right leg.

Luongo remained down on the ice in apparent pain forcing play to stop and team trainers helped him off the ice.

James Reimer took his place between the pipes for Florida.
