Paul Coffey parts ways with Oilers as skills development coach

HC at Noon discussion on the importance of the Edmonton Oilers finding the right coach for Connor McDavid, and whether GM Ken Holland would've approached the superstar about bringing in Dave Tippett?

The Edmonton Oilers continued its organizational shuffling on Tuesday.

Not long after Dave Tippett was introduced as the new head coach, Sportsnet’s Mark Spector confirmed Paul Coffey won’t be returning to his role as the team’s skills development coach.

The three-time Norris Trophy winner and 2004 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee spent the first seven seasons of his 21-year NHL career with the Oilers, helping the team win the Stanley Cup in 1984, 1985 and 1987.

Coffey was hired by the Oilers in January 2018 by former general manager Peter Chiarelli, joining the likes of former teammates and current Oilers vice chairs Wayne Gretzky and Kevin Lowe in the organization.
