Penguins’ Bryan Rust, Justin Schultz leave Game 2 with apparent injuries

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust is slow to get up after Ottawa Senators defenceman Dion Phaneuf lays a huge hit on him on the rush.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Justin Schultz and forward Bryan Rust both left Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Ottawa Senators with apparent injuries.

Rust was slow to get up after a big hit from defenceman Dion Phaneuf less than five minutes into the game. He skated straight to the Penguins bench and went down the tunnel to the dressing room. (You can watch video of the hit at the top of this page.)

Schultz left the game after a collision with forward Mike Hoffman behind the Penguins’ net. He skated off the ice clutching his right arm and went straight to the Penguins’ room.

After the game, head coach Mike Sullivan didn’t have an update on either players’ status.

The Penguins are already without defenceman Trevor Daley and forward Patric Hornqvist, who both didn’t dress for the game.
