Penguins place Sidney Crosby on IR after core muscle surgery

Tim and Sid discuss how the Penguins will deal with Sidney Crosby's absence for a minimum of six weeks, after he recovers from surgery to repair a core muscle injury.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed star centre Sidney Crosby on injured reserve and recalled forward Joseph Blandisi from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on an emergency basis, the team announced Saturday.

The Penguins revealed earlier this week that Crosby, 32, will miss a minimum of six weeks after he recovers from surgery to repair a core muscle injury.

The Athletic‘s Rob Rossi reported that Crosby has been dealing with a sports hernia since training camp and re-aggravated the injury against the Chicago Blackhawks last weekend.

Crosby has 17 points in 17 games this season.

Blandisi, 25, has recorded four points in eight games with the Penguins’ AHL affiliate in 2019-20. The Markham, Ont., native also has two points in seven NHL games this season.
