The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to a two-year contract worth $1.4 million, the team announced Thursday.

Ruhwedel, 29, played 18 games with the Penguins in 2018-19 and had five points in five AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

“Chad has exemplified what it means to be a team player the past two years,” Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said in a press release. “His work ethic and conditioning have allowed him to jump into the lineup at a moment’s notice, which is vital to a team’s success.”

Ruhwedel was shut down in late February as he dealt with an upper-body injury.
