Penguins sticking with Matt Murray in net for Game 2 vs. Canadiens

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan says Matt Murray will be between the pipes for Game 2 against the Habs, and says that he’s confidence that his group’s experience will help them bounce back in a big way.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are sticking with Matt Murray in net for Game 2 of their qualifying series against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Penguins fell to the Canadiens in the opening matchup of the series, and though the loss cannot be placed squarely on the shoulders of the starting netminder, it did raise some questions about whether coach Mike Sullivan would turn to Tristan Jarry for Game 2.

While Murray has the experience — he backstopped Pittsburgh to the Stanley Cup in back-to-back seasons as a rookie — and was the hotter goalie at the time of the season hiatus back in March, Jarry has the better numbers this season (2.43 goals-against average, .921 save percentage) and was considered the stronger goalie throughout training camp.
