David Perron is a month and a half into his tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins and admits that he is already feeling comfortable with the new club.

In an interview with the Tribune-Review on Thursday, Perron talked about standing up for teammate Kris Letang after he was slashed by Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals earlier in the week.

“I wanted to do more to him,” Perron said after the 3-1 loss on Tuesday. “Thankfully there was a break (stop in play) right after, and I could calm down a bit. It’s almost like you wanted to do the same thing to him that he just did to Kris.”

“If you get a two-minute penalty or whatever,” Perron said, “maybe they go on the power play. It’s a 1-1 game at the time. I think we handled it properly. We finished every check for the rest of the game, and that’s how we have to play against them moving forward.

“Now that we’re talking about it,” Perron said, “we should have done it. We ended up losing anyway.”

Perron was traded to the Penguins on Jan. 2 from the Edmonton Oilers for Rob Klinkhammer and a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. In 19 games since the trade, the left-winger has 13 points.
