Anaheim announced on Wednesday that both Perry and defenceman Francois Beauchemin were diagnosed with the mumps.

While Perry is still considered day-to-day, Beauchemin is in hospital receiving intravenous fluids according to Ducks medical director Craig Milhouse.

“I think we knew what it was right away,” Anaheim’s Twitter account quoted Perry as saying. “I had my shots when I was a kid, but it doesn’t always work.”

Perry has missed four games since the mumps were detected. In 13 games this season, the Peterborough, Ont. native is one goal behind the league lead with 11. He has also added four assists to go along with a plus/minus rating of plus-11.

He says overcoming a disease like this isn’t going to happen overnight.

“I feel good, but it’s going to take some time. I don’t know about this weekend, but we’ll see,” Perry said.

The Ducks are in Los Angeles on Saturday to play the Kings.
