Phil Kessel’s presidential campaign takes off in grand style

US President Barack Obama joins in on the Phil Kessel fun as the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins visit the White House.

Phil Kessel has it all.

A Stanley Cup ring, the love and adoration of millions of fans, and a wrist shot that strikes fear into opposing goaltenders.

But now he wants more.

On Monday, Kessel unveiled his “Vote for Phil” campaign, signalling his participation in America’s presidential election.

Teammate Kris Letang is on board.

Everyone's vote is important!!!! Make sure you vote …. mine goes to the legend @phil_kessel_81_

The shirts, which can be bought online, feature Kessel’s Twitter description (and now slogan) of “Nice guy. Tries hard. Loves the game.”, as well as his candy-cane shaft tape job on the L in “Phil”.

As of this writing there was no mention of a running mate.
