McQuaid finished up the 2017-18 regular season with one goal and four points, to go along with 62 PIM in 38 games.
Impact
McQuaid remains off the fantasy radar in leagues that don't factor in hits, blocks and penalty minutes, but the 31-year-old's rugged play and willingness to stand up for his teammates add a useful dimension to the Boston blue line corps heading into the postseason. McQuaid remains under contract with the Bruins for the 2018-19 campaign, but it's possible that the team could consider moving the 6-foot-4, 212-pounder this coming offseason, with some youngsters poised to make runs at roster spots next fall.
McQuaid, who was forced out Monday's game with an unspecified injury, practiced Tuesday.
Impact
We'll operate under the assumption that the rugged defender will be fine for Wednesday night's game against the Blues. With McQuaid dinged up and Zdeno Chara (upper body) and Charlie McAvoy (knee) still sidelined, the Bruins have recalled Paul Postma to serve as a spare blueliner for the team. In 28 games to date, McQuaid has logged just three points, but he can at least help out in leagues where his PIM (49), hits (64) and blocks (42) factor in.
McQuaid left Monday's tilt versus Columbus in the third period with an injury, Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Impact
It must be something in the locker room, as McQuaid is now the seventh Bruins player to either be listed as day-to-day or out. It's unclear when McQuaid suffered his injury or what he's exactly dealing with, and head coach Bruce Cassidy was unsure of the severity following the game. If the 31-year-old isn't ready for Wednesday's game against St. Louis, the Bruins may need to call someone up from AHL Providence, as they don't have a seventh defensemen on their roster at the moment.
McQuaid scored his first goal since Feb.12, 2017 and racked up 18 PIM in Sunday's win over the Devils.
Impact
McQuaid has only appeared in 18 games this season due to a leg injury, collecting two points and 44 PIM. The third-pairing blueliner is known for his physical play and doesn't offer much in terms of offensive production. McQuaid has never surpassed 15 points in his NHL career, so unless your league relies solely on PIM and defensive categories, it's best to steer clear of the rearguard in fantasy.
McQuaid registered 12 penalty minutes, two blocked shots and a shot on goal in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Rangers.
Impact
McQuaid dropped the gloves against Cody McLeod twice, with the second fight also earning him a roughing minor. It was actually McQuaid's first fight since before his injury in October when he exchanged fisticuffs with, who else, McLeod. The veteran blueliner's night tells you all you need to know about him for fantasy purposes -- he's not going to provide you with anything in the way of offensive production, but if you're in a league that values peripheral defensive stats, he might be worth a look.
McQuaid (leg) logged 15:12 worth of ice time in Wednesday's 4-1 win over Montreal.
Impact
It was McQuaid's first game since Oct. 19, with the rugged blueliner having suffered a broken right fibula at that time. McQuaid has been healthy enough of late suit suit up, but it wasn't until Kevan Miller came down with an illness in advance of Wednesday's contest that McQuaid drew back into the B's lineup. Miller will remain sidelined Thursday against the Islanders, but once Saturday's game against the Canadiens rolls around, the B's may have a tough call on which of their blueliners to scratch from their lineup. McQuaid isn't on the fantasy radar in leagues that don't factor in hits, blocks and penalty minutes, but the 6-foot-4, 212-pounder's physical play and sound positioning remain assets to the Boston blue line corps.
McQuaid (leg) will rejoin the lineup against Montreal on Wednesday, Fluto Shinzawa of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
McQuaid has been sidelined for the past 36 games due to his leg ailment, though he was medically cleared in late December. It took Kevan Miller picking up an illness for the Bruins to decide it was time to activate McQuaid off injured reserve. Look for the defenseman to slot into the third pairing alongside Matt Grzelcyk.
McQuaid (leg) is healthy, but he won't be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Senators.
Impact
McQuaid is still technically listed on injured reserve, but he'll be officially activated as soon as coach Bruce Cassidy wants to reinsert him into the lineup. Either way, fantasy owners shouldn't need to concern themselves with the 31-year-old blueliner's status, as his distinct lack of offensive upside keeps him off the radar in all but the deepest of fantasy formats.
McQuaid (leg) won't play Saturday against the Red Wings.
Impact
We suspect that he could have played Saturday, if needed, but with the team's other blue line members healthy and playing well, McQuaid will sit this one out. His next opportunity to play will arrive after the holiday break, when the Bruins host Ottawa on Wednesday.
McQuaid (leg) is considered a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Red Wings.
Impact
If McQuaid is available Saturday, the Bruins would have a tough choice to make, unless they decide to roll with seven blueliners against Detroit. Matt Grzelcyk, who has been filling in while McQuaid bounces back from a broken fibula, has played well of late, so coach Bruce Cassidy is faced with a difficult lineup call now that his team's back line corps is getting healthy.
