Ovechkin netted two goals with the man advantage in a 3-2 win over the Kings on Monday.
Impact
A vintage performance from the Russian sees his league-leading total rise to 42 tallies this season. Ovechkin picked up four goals and an assist on the Capitals' three-game swing through California. For the year, he's up to 69 points in 59 games, with 21 of those points coming on the power play.
Ovechkin opened the scoring with his 40th of the year in a 5-2 loss to the Ducks on Sunday.
Impact
Sure, the loss stings, but Ovechkin now has his 10th 40-goal season, joining only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Marcel Dionne in that rarefied air. He remains the gold standard for goal scoring in the league. Ovechkin also supplied seven shots on goal and five hits in a busy performance.
Ovechkin recorded a goal, a power-play assist and four shots during Thursday's 5-1 win over the Sharks.
Impact
Ovechkin continues to pace the NHL with 39 goals and has been heating up with two goals and nine points in seven games since the All-Star break. Keep him rolling.
Ovechkin scored a power-play goal and added two even-strength assists in Monday's 6-4 win over the Kings.
Impact
He also fired a game-high eight shots with a plus-1 rating. Ovechkin now has five goals and 12 points in his last seven games, leaving the future Hall of Famer just two markers shy of the 10th 40-goal campaign of his career.
Ovechkin's pair of assists in Thursday's 4-3 win over Colorado helped him reach the 60-point mark for the sixth straight year.
Impact
This number would be huge for many players, but it's a normal year for Ovechkin, who has only failed to reach 60 points one time in his career -- the 48-game lockout season of 2012-13. With 28 games to play, he should be able to surpass last year's totals of 49 goals and 87 points.
Ovechkin tallied an assist and three shots during Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Canucks.
Impact
The helper moved Ovechkin into sole possession of first place among Russian players in NHL history, passing Sergei Fedorov with 1,179 points in 1,054 career games. The "Great 8" remains on pace to finish near the 60-goal and 90-point mark.
Ovechkin has served his one-game suspension for backing out of the All-Star Game. He will be eligible to return Sunday against the Bruins.
Impact
As noted by David Ginsburg of the Associated Press, Ovechkin -- who is currently sitting at 644 goals and 535 assists -- will have an opportunity Sunday to pass Sergei Fedorov for the most points among Russian-born players. The Capitals actually managed to snap a seven-game losing streak without Ovi on Friday, sneaking past the Flames at home, 4-3.
As expected, Ovechkin will be suspended against Calgary on Feb. 1 for sitting out the All-Star Game, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
Impact
Ovechkin's impending suspension is a calculated risk by the player and his team, suggesting that the world-class winger would benefit more from the time off than participating in the All-Star Game. The Caps could have shut him down for Wednesday's matchup with Toronto, but likely were concerned about the six-game losing streak and hoped to enter the break with a win -- which they didn't after losing 6-3 to the Maple Leafs. Ovechkin will be good to go versus Boston on Feb. 3 after serving his one-game ban.
Ovechkin scored three goals and added an assist in Tuesday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Sharks.
Impact
His first goal of the night came on the power play, and when Ovie completed the hat trick early in the third period it gave the Caps a 6-4 lead, but the captain's efforts weren't quite enough. With Washington having lost six straight games, Ovechkin won't get the luxury of an extra night off before the All-Star break -- coach Todd Reirden confirmed that the 33-year-old would be in the lineup Wednesday in Toronto.
Ovechkin tallied a power-play assist, four shots, four hits and a minus-3 rating during Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Predators.
Impact
Ovechkin has tallied three goals, five points, 14 shots and 13 hits during that span. The 33-year-old winger continues to defend his reputation as one of the best all-around fantasy performers.
