Sekera (Achilles) was recalled from AHL Bakersfield and removed from LTIR, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 32-year-old has been riddled with injuries the last few seasons, playing just 36 games during the 2017-18 campaign and has yet to suit up this year. Sekera had 35 points during his last full season and will be a very important addition to this Edmonton blue line.
Sekera (Achilles) will stay with AHL Bakersfield for another two games before rejoining the Oilers' roster, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Impact
Sekera figures to suit up Friday and Saturday versus AHL Ontario, which pushes his potential return date for Edmonton back to Tuesday versus Arizona at the earliest. In his prior three minor-league contests, the 32-year-old tallied one assist, two PIM and a plus-6 rating. Once given the all-clear, the offensively minded defender should add some much-needed firepower to the Oilers' blue line and could get a look on the power play as well.
Sekera (Achilles) will suit up for AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday as part of his conditioning assignment.
Impact
The news effectively rules Sekera out for Wednesday's matchup with Pittsburgh, but barring any setbacks, he could rejoin the Oilers ahead of their clash with Carolina on Friday. The 32-year-old is no doubt eager to make his 2018-19 debut after having been out of action since April of 2018. Kevin Gravel figures to be the odd man out once Sekera is activated off injured reserve.
Sekera is working his way back from an Achilles injury. The conditioning assignment can last three games or six days. With the Condors playing three times over the next six days, Sekera will get plenty of ice time ahead of making his much-anticipated return in Edmonton. The 32-year-old defenseman has not played a game in 2018-19.
Sekera (Achilles) remains four weeks away from a potential conditioning assignment in the minors, Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com reports.
Impact
The news effectively rules Sekera out until early February when factoring in the Oilers' bye week and the All-Star break, though he could head down to the minors while the team is off. Even if he plays the final two months of the season, the blueliner may not be worth stashing in redraft leagues at this point.
Sekera continues to work his way back from an Achilles injury and was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Impact
Sekera has ramped up his activity level over the last month and is on track to return sometime in January. He'll likely have to play a few games with AHL Bakersfield before he makes his season debut. Expect the Oilers to send him down for a conditioning stint within the next few weeks. Sekera last played April 2, 2018.
Sekera will test out his Achilles injury with two weeks' worth of pre-game skates before his next meeting with a doctor, Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com reports.
Impact
Gregor adds that if all goes well, Sekera could return at some point in January. Edmonton owns a minus-12 goal differential through 23 games, with Sekera's absence felt on both ends of the ice. The left-shooting defenseman has produced 232 points (45 goals, 187 assists) to complement 1,050 blocked shots through 683 career contests.
Sekera (Achilles) is likely to miss the first 60 games of the season on long-term injured reserve, the National Post reports.
Impact
Sekera, who tore his Achilles in an offseason workout this August, is trending toward another long absence after missing 46 games due to a multitude of injuries, including a torn ACL, in 2017-18.
Sekera underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn Achilles tendon. While the operation was deemed successful, he will be out indefinitely.
Impact
This is awful news for Sekera and the Oilers, especially since the defenseman was limited to 36 games last season. In fact, a torn ACL that he sustained in the 2017 playoffs pushed his 2017-18 season debut back to Dec. 21 and the Czech skater also missed time with a facial injury last year. Kevin Gravel -- who signed a two-year deal with the Oilers on July 1 -- could be asked to fill the void by spending most of his time at the top level in the coming season. Prospect Evan Bouchard could be in the mix as well.
Sekera will not play in either of the final two games of 2017-18 due to a knee injury, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact
Coach Todd McLellan indicated that the injury isn't serious, so the veteran blueliner should be fine by the time training camp rolls around in the fall. Sekera managed a disappointing eight points -- all assists -- over just 36 games this season, potentially deflating his stock slightly heading into drafts next year. He remains under contract with the Oilers through 2020-21, so Sekera should be in line for more productive season with a potent Edmonton squad next year if he can stay on the ice.
