The Nashville Predators had two goals overturned by goaltender interference within a minute of each other in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final Tuesday, and fans were not happy.
The plays happened six minutes into the third period and if either goal had counted, the Predators would have snapped a 1-1 tie with the Anaheim Ducks.
Tossing towels onto the ice and chanting “Refs, you suck,” the sold-out crowd was angry.
Rioting was averted, however, as the Predators went on to win the game thanks to a late power-play goal from Roman Josi.
The calls so many fans were objecting to were not as obviously wrong as the crowd would have you believe.
On both plays, Anaheim Ducks’ goalie John Gibson was knocked over, slow to get up and definitely unable to make a save. On the second play, defenceman Mattias Ekholm was even given a goaltender-interference penalty.
