Predators place goaltender Pekka Rinne on injured reserve

Pekka Rinne collides with teammate Kevin Fiala then exits the game a couple minutes after with an apparent injury.

The Nashville Predators placed goaltender Pekka Rinne on the injured reserve on Saturday afternoon, one day after he left a game with an apparent injury.

Rinne exited Friday’s contest against the Calgary Flames in the third period after colliding with teammate Kevin Fiala. Backup Juuse Saros took over in net and helped the Predators to a 5-3 win.

The 35-year-old Rinne, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, was enjoying a strong start to the 2018-19 campaign with the Central Division-leading Predators. He owns a 2.10 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in five games.
