Predators’ Roman Josi fined $5K for cross-check on Stars’ Corey Perry

Roman Josi and Corey Perry get into a battle in front of Juuse Saros, Perry lays a slash on the back of Josi's leg, and the Predators' defender responds with a cross-check to the head.

Nashville Predators defenceman Roman Josi has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Dallas Stars winger Corey Perry during their matchup Saturday, the NHL’s department of player safety announced.

The incident occurred with fewer than five minutes remaining in the second period of the Predators’ 1-0 win over the Stars as the two players battled for position in front of Nashville goalie Juuse Saros. Perry gave Josi a slash to the back of the leg, before the Predators defenceman responded with a cross-check to the side of the long-time NHL agitator’s head.

Josi is earning $4 million this season in his final year of a seven-year, $28-million contract. His eight-year, $72.472-million extension kicks in next season.

The smooth-skating D-man has 63 points in 68 games for the Predators in 2019-20.
