Principe: Rekindle the Burke-Lowe battle

I know there’s the Battle of Alberta, and Edmonton-Vancouver games aren’t exactly tame like a church bake sale.

But for me the best rivalry that isn’t played on ice has to be the Kevin Lowe – Brian Burke feud. Theý have a professional dislike for each other that has given the public a great sparring session to witness and the media about two years worth of material about which to write.

It all started when Lowe went after Dustin Penner. Burke didn’t like it; actually, it pissed him right off to the point where he called Lowe, among other things, a “moron.”

Well the Oilers GM stayed silent for the longest time, but eventually he responded to the many attacks and finally blasted Burke by calling him a “blowhard.”

I’m loving this. You can’t make this stuff up.

Then after another skirmish this summer the league said “No Mas.” That’s it, you two go back to your respective corners and don’t come out fighting. I ask you why? I know the answer but really why? They are grown men, they can decide when enough is enough.

I certainly hadn’t had enough of it but the commish has. Their two teams meet on Wednesday night. It could turn out to be a highly entertaining game but it will be hard to match the entertainment value that Lowe and Burke have provided.
