Standing on a New York street corner for the last week has been, shall we say, interesting. Lots of noise and lots of people, which isn’t a surprise when you are working in a city of over eight million.
I’ve been here covering the latest on the CBA. There is still no resolution which has everyone contemplating if or when a season of NHL play will get started.
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to predict a conclusion to all this?
If that’s how you’re feeling, then the place to go would be a psychic. A sign for a psychic has been visible over my left shoulder throughout all our work in New York. On HockeyCentral with Daren Millard and Connected with Martine Gaillard, both made the suggestion to go see a psychic.
With not a lot happening between the NHL and NHLPA, the idea made sense. Stroll in to see a psychic, ask a few questions about when season will start and voila! We have something to run on TV. Seemed like a simple way to have a little fun and maybe get some insight.
Off I went looking for psychics. They aren’t hard to find in New York. Every couple of blocks you’ll find one.
Finding one that will speak to you when you have a cameraman tagging along is a much different story.
For a few hours, I walked around New York City finding psychics. Getting in was easy enough, but getting seen wasn’t so easy. As soon as the psychic saw the camera (which I guess they should have been able to predict) they were suddenly busy with a reading and had no time for us. When you are getting a reading, it’s about the ‘energy’ given off by the client to the psychic, or at least that’s what I was told. Having a camera around throws off the ‘energy’ and makes the reading inaccurate. That’s what each psychic said was the reason they wouldn’t do anything with us.
The word psychic is derived from the Greek word psychikos. It all dates back to ancient times when fortune telling and astrology was used to help predict future circumstances. You may recognize the name Nostradamus. The Frenchman was credited, back in the 1500s, of predicting many major world events. However he never had to deal with a lockout. In fact many of us could have "predicted" there would be a lockout. The trick isn’t calling the start of it, but the end of this all.
Having ‘psychic’ abilities is a quality some of us may have and not even know. You can check out those abilities on the internet. There’s actually a free online psychic test you can take. 20 questions and depending on your answers, you may be showing signs of seeing into the future.
Here’s a small sample of the questions:
Do you sometimes stand beside a person and feel anxious?
Do you ever know things without knowing why you know it?
Do you sometimes say something and you don’t understand why you said it?
If you answered yes to the above maybe you should take the remaining 17 questions. Then maybe you could predict when the lockout would end. I did get one psychic, off camera, to answer the question of when hockey would come back. Her answer was not the season.
I hope she’s wrong, but that’s as hard to predict as the end of the lockout.
