QMJHL Roundup: Emond makes 35 saves to carry Huskies past Drakkar


BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Zachary Emond made 35 saves as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies picked up their ninth victory in 10 games with a 3-2 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Saturday.

Alex Beaucage notched the game-winning goal for the Huskies (10-2-0) at 2:13 of the third period.

Patrik Hrehorcak and Jakub Lauko also found the back of the net for Rouyn-Noranda.

Nathan Legare and Shawn Element answered for the Drakkar (9-3-1).

Kyle Jessiman turned aside 20 shots for Baie-Comeau.

The Drakkar went 0 for 4 on the power play, while the Huskies were went 0 for 3 with the man advantage.


CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Alexis Shank made 26 saves and Chicoutimi shutout Victoriaville to win its second straight game.

Samuel Houde’s marker at 15:59 of the second period stood as the game-winning goal for the Sagueneens. Jeremy Diotte and Jeremy Groleau also scored for Chicoutimi (7-3-2).

Tristan Cote-Cazenave turned aside 26 shots in the loss for Victoriaville (6-5-1).


SHERBROOKE, Que. — Raphael Lavoie had a goal and an assist as Halifax doubled up Sherbrooke to pick up its league-tying 10th victory.

Jared McIsaac registered the game-winning goal for the Mooseheads (10-3-0) at 3:10 of the third period. Antoine Morand and Marcel Barinka also netted goals for Halifax. Yann-Felix Lapointe and Samuel Poulin replied for the Phoenix (5-6-1).

Cole McLaren kicked out 29 shots for Halifax. Brendan Cregan made 25 saves for Sherbrooke.


CHARLOTTETOWN — Daniel Hardie scored twice and added an assist as Charlottetown held off Rimouski for its fourth straight win.

Zachary Beauregard, Cole Edwards and Lukas Cormier also scored for the Islanders (7-5-1). Alexis Lafreniere, Dmitry Zavgorodniy, Jason Imbeault and Charle-Edouard D’Astous notched goals for the Oceanic (7-5-1). Lafreniere also added two assists to put the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 QMJHL Draft fourth in league scoring.

Matthew Welsh kicked out 28 shots for Charlottetown. Carmine-Anthony Pagliarulo made 26 saves for Rimouski.


MONCTON, N.B. — Jakob Pelletier had a goal and two assists as Moncton blew out Shawinigan.

Brady Pataki, Alexander Khovanov, Mika Cyr, Jeremy McKenna, Jakob Pelletier, Simon Le Coultre and Jack Tucker also found the back of the net for the Wildcats (7-3-2). Roddie Sandilands and Jan Drozg scored for the Cataractes (3-9-0).

Charles-Antoine Lavallee turned away 17 shots for Moncton. Lucas Fitzpatrick combined with Antoine Coulombe for 34 saves for Shawinigan.


SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Egor Sokolov scored twice and added two assists while Kevin Mandolese made 15 saves for the shutout as Cape Breton dominated Saint John.

Wilson Forest, Ryan Francis and Liam Kidney also scored for the Screaming Eagles (2-7-3).

Alex D’Orio turned away 36 shots for Saint John (6-6-1).


BOISBRIAND, Que. — Emile Samson gave up just one goal and made 29 saves as Blainville-Boisbriand overcame Quebec.

Joel Teasdale scored twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist, while Simon Pinard and Samuel Bolduc had singles for the Armada (7-4-1). Matthew Grouchy had the lone goal for the Remparts (6-6-1).

Anthony Morrone turned away 30 shots for Quebec.
