Carlyle responds to Bowe’s ‘knockout’ tweet

Randy Carlyle fought 30 times and racked up 1,400 penalty minutes during his NHL career, so he knows a thing or two about the rough stuff.

On Thursday, boxing great Riddick Bowe called out Carlyle on Twitter, and the Toronto Maple Leafs coach responded in jest Friday.

Bowe’s tweet about Carlyle and the team’s recent struggles became the talk of Twitter, especially among those in Leafs Nation.

The tweet generated hundreds of retweets and favourites and the 46-year-old former WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight champion was overwhelmed by the response.

Bowe, who owns a home in Toronto, says he has been a huge fan of the Leafs and hockey for 20 years. In fact, in the mid-1990s, Bowe was even a partner of the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch.
