The New York Rangers have acquired winger Julien Gauthier in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes for defenceman Joey Keane, the teams announced Tuesday.

Gauthier, 22, was the 21st-overall pick by the Hurricanes in the 2016 NHL draft. He has appeared in five career NHL games, all this season, posting one assist. With the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, Gauthier has 26 goals and 37 points over 44 games this season.

A third-round pick with the Rangers in 2018, Keane leads AHL defencemen in goals this season with eight. The 20-year-old has 30 points to his name across 49 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack in 2019-20.
