The Rangers helped out the Podell family with a donation.

The New York Rangers made a classy gesture this week.

The team made a $5,000 donation, according to the New York Daily News, to the GoFundMe.com account intended to raise money for Associated Press writer Ira Podell, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last spring and later suffered a stroke.

Podell’s family is trying to raise money in order to install special facilities for Podell to live and receive care at home.

As of Friday night, the GoFundMe.com page had raised over $36,000.

The NHL Players’ Association also donated $2,000 with the message: “The players and staff of the NHLPA are thinking about you Ira and wishing you all the best in your recovery.”
