Rangers’ McDonagh played through broken foot

Alain Vigneault revealed at the post game press conference following the elimination of the New York Rangers from the Stanley Cup playoffs that their captain Ryan McDonagh was actually playing with a broken foot for the last while.

New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh played through the Eastern Conference final with a broken foot, head coach Alain Vigneault told reporters following a Game 7 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Vigneault said the defenceman had been playing with the injury for “a couple games.”

McDonagh didn’t see any action Friday until midway through the first period after heading to the dressing room following the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner.

The 25-year-old sat out Thursday’s practice. We know now it wasn’t simply a maintenance day.
