Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha is set to make his NHL debut after Detroit called up the 21-year-old prospect on Monday.
Mantha is expected to be in the lineup on Tuesday when the Detroit Red Wings visit the Philadelphia Flyers.
The 2013 first-round pick has 21 goals and 24 assists in 56 games this season with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Mantha is highly regarded in the Red Wings system due to his six-foot-six frame and scoring ability.
Detroit is in a need of a scorer with the team averaging just 2.48 goals per game. The Wings are also coming off a 1-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday.
Detroit has a three-point lead over the Flyers for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference entering Monday’s play.
