Detroit Red Wings winger Darren Helm has been fined $5,000 for slashing the Calgary Flames‘ Elias Lindholm.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the NHL/NHLPA CBA.
The incident occurred early in the third period of Thursday’s game shortly after the Flames scored to go up 4-1.
After Lindholm interfered with Helm, Helm responded by slashing Lindholm with two hands in the back of the leg. Helm was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for the slash.
Lindholm left the game and did not return. The Flames won 5-1.
