Red Wings goaltenders embrace holiday spirit with new masks

Red Wings’ General Manager Ken Holland assesses where his team stands after the first quarter of the NHL season and what can be done to improve. Holland also talks about the job done by head coach Jeff Blashill so far.

Ugly Christmas sweaters have become quite the ironic fashion staple in recent years. Now, the movement has effectively crossed over to goalie masks.

Detroit Red Wings goaltenders Jimmy Howard and Petr Mrazek have embraced the holiday spirit and unveiled new masks featuring awful Christmas sweater designs and reindeer.

Mask designer David Gunnarsson released some images of the new masks he painted for both Howard and Mrazek and they’re better than you could have imagined.

Howard’s new grill features some hilariously festive Christmas sweater patterns.

Mrazek’s lid features an ode to Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and old Santa Claus’ sleigh.

Howard and Mrazek have dabbled in some Christmas themed designs with their masks before, but it appears they’ve raised the bar this holiday season.
