The Detroit Red Wings honoured the late Gordie Howe on Monday with a video tribute during their home opener against the Ottawa Senators.
During the first television timeout of the game, a video played (see above) at Joe Louis Arena to pay tribute to the Red Wings great, also known as Mr. Hockey.
The club announced prior to the start of the season that Red Wings players will wear a No. 9 patch on their sweaters this year — their final campaign at The Joe. There’s also a red No. 9 painted behind both nets at Joe Louis Arena.
Howe died on June 10 at the age of 88.
