Red Wings’ Pavel Datsyuk gets penalty after losing tooth

After a penalty against Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg had to stop the refs from dropping the puck to pick up his teammate’s teeth off the ice.

With his NHL career winding down, Pavel Datsyuk is leaving it all on the ice. Literally.

Midway through Friday’s Game 2 between the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, the Russian superstar lost a tooth when he caught an inadvertent high stick from Victor Hedman. A frustrated Datsyuk received a retaliatory roughing penalty for going after Hedman, who did not receive a penalty.

Instead of heading to the penalty box, however, Datsyuk stormed off to the locker room for repairs.

Henrik Zetterberg located Datsyuk’s missing chiclet in between whistles and handed it to his team’s trainer.

If you can’t rely on your teammates to pick up your teeth when you lose some chiclets, then what can you rely on them for, really?

Datsyuk eventually returned to the game.
