The Detroit Red Wings placed forward Jordin Tootoo on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a compliance buyout.
Tootoo was scheduled to carry a salary cap hit of $1.9 million in the final year of his contract.
The 31-year-old forward registered one assist and five penalty minutes in 11 games with the Red Wings during the 2013-14 season. Tootoo tallied a total of 53 games with Detroit over the last two years.
The Manitoba native was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round (98th overall) in the 2001 NHL Draft.
