Red Wings sign 2014 first-rounder Dylan Larkin

While one era of Detroit Red Wings hockey came to a close today with Mike Babcock joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, another is set to begin with an announcement that the club has signed 2014 first-round draft pick Dylan Larkin to an entry-level contract.

Larkin was taken 15th overall by the Red Wings at last June’s draft. The 18-year-old spent the 2014-15 season with the Big 10’s Michigan Wolverines, scoring 15 goals and 47 points in 35 games.

Larkin starred with the United States at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship where he totalled five goals and seven points in five games. He also represented his country at the IIHF World Championship this spring in Prague, Czech Republic. Larkin recored one assist in 10 games.

Larkin could join the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins in their Western Conference final series vs. the Utica Comets this weekend in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
