The Detroit Red Wings have won the Dan DeKeyser sweepstakes.
DeKeyser, an undrafted free agent defenceman, had been entertaining numerous NHL offers following the completion of his third season at Western Michigan University last Saturday. He was the top college free agent available this season.
The Michigan native scored two goals and 15 points with Western Michigan this season and was named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s first all-star team. The 6-foot-3, 198-pound DeKeyser was also named the CCHA’s best defensive defenceman the last two seasons.
