Red Wings sign defenceman Alex Biega to one-year extension

The Detroit Red Wings are signing veteran defenceman Alex Biega to a one-year extension. Capfriendly.com reports the contract is worth $875,000.

Biega, 31, was acquired by the Red Wings from the Vancouver Canucks in early October. In 48 games this season he has three assists, 24 penalty minutes and 45 blocked shots.

He was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
