The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenceman Moritz Seider to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Sunday.
Seider, 18, was taken by the Red Wings with the No. 6 overall selection at June’s NHL Draft in Vancouver.
The German defenceman played last season with Adler Mannheim in the Deutsch Eishockey Liga, logging two goals and four assists in 29 games en route to being named Rookie of the Year. In 14 post-season games, Seider contributed with five assists to help Mannheim win the DEL championship.
Seider is the first German player to be taken in the first round of an NHL Entry Draft.
