Free agent forward Thomas Vanek has found a new home.
The Detroit Red Wings signed Vanek to a one-year, $2.6-million contract Friday.
The Minnesota Wild bought out Vanek last week after he finished with 18 goals and 41 points in 71 games in 2015-16. Vanek inked a three-year, $19.5-million deal with the Wild in 2014.
The 32-year-old joins Frans Nielsen as a new addition to the fold in Detroit. The Red Wings also brought back forward Darren Helm on Friday and re-signed restricted free agent defenceman Alexey Marchenko.
Vanek has registered 316 goals and 649 points in 817 games with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, and Wild.
