Jersey pull: Reebok fields complaints

Sportsnet.ca — Reebok received its first lesson in hockey tradition as player complaints have forced the sports manufacturer to revert to old material in their new, scientifically-designed jerseys.

The sporting giant have already shipped modified jerseys that feature material from older jerseys to the disgruntled players. The most common complaint is that the scientifically-designed fabric causes sweat to pool in the uniform.

“We are only changing a panel (front),” NHL spokesperson Bernadette Mansur said. “We are simply offering an alternative to the players who are requesting it.”

The new line of Reebok hockey equipment is endorsed by Pittsburgh superstar Sidney Crosby.

The problem is reminiscent of the NBA’s ill-fated attempt to bring new technology to its basketballs last season. The NBA introduced synthetic balls to start the 2006-07 season, but they were shelved in favour of the old leather ball by Jan. 1, after a barrage of complaints from players.
